New Here [May. 27th, 2011|08:01 am]
Hi everyone I'm new here.  I love the idea of this community.  Something to keep me held "accountable".  lol

A bit about me.  I was a raw vegan about 6-7 years ago.  I was pregnant with my daughter at the time and for some reason I couldn't eat anything cooked without it coming back up.  That's when I found raw foods.  I stayed raw until my daughter was about 3-4 months old.  Then I started eating crap again.

Since then I've tried going back to raw many times.  I always do well for a week or two but then I find myself eating burgers and other crud.

Something's different this time.  I can't explain it.  It's like I'm ready for it.  Like before were just practice runs.  I don't know, but when I picture myself now I picture myself raw (and fit...started working out again).  It's not that I'm suddenly totally against cooked or unhealthy foods.  It's more I've realized I have a choice.  And the choice I've made is to be raw.  I choose not to eat unhealthy.
Unfortunately my journey into raw has to wait a bit.  We can't afford to buy what I need until Wednesday.  But in that time I'm doing a lot of reading.  :)

Introduction [Aug. 19th, 2010|11:33 pm]
Dear all,

just wanted to say hi! My name is Sonja and I am new here (and by HERE I mean Livejournal... and what's the first thing I do? I join this community!).

I am from Germany. I have been on the raw food path for almost half a year now. But you can read everything about this on my site. However, I have recently decided to try to stay 100% raw for as long as possible. We'll see how long that is (probably tomorrow because I will see my bf again and I adore his curries! but how knows...)

So, I hope that I will be a vital part of this community in the future. And since the present is always the perfect time, I will list what I ate today, NOW:

- one glass of celery green, apple, carrot, ginger juice

- a wakame salad (consisting of wakame, half a cucumber, nama shoyu, apple cider vinegar, honey and a dash of cayenne)

- choco "pudding" (I don't even know how to call this... the texture was undefinable) which consisted of some raw cacao beans, some dates, some nut milk, chia seed and a tbsp of coconut oil

- 5 noritos (and maybe I will get me some more NOW! yum!)

Yep, that's it. One more thing... since I am a newbie and since I am _really_ interested in meeting raw foodies from all over the world... please feel free to add me as a friend!

Raw tomato flatbread [Aug. 15th, 2010|05:59 pm]

[Current Mood |calmcalm]

All of the recipes I've found online use sun dried tomatoes. Those are expensive- like 6 bucks for 3 oz or something as equally crazy.

I'm looking for something similar to what you get with Rawvolution's famous onion bread, but I don't have sunflower seeds and I didn't want onion to be the main flavor. Does anyone have a recipe that would include any of the below ingredients:

Ground Flax
Whole almonds
Fresh, but very ripe, Tomatoes
Fresh garlic

I also have:

In case those could be used to make a "bread" also.

Any ideas?

(no subject) [Jan. 24th, 2009|11:56 pm]

[Current Mood |blahblah]

Hello all!

New here on the raw food lifestyle... well I have been a vegetarian for about two years now (lacto-ovo). And I've heard so many wonderful things about the raw food plan. I'm looking to get Dr. Douglas Graham's 'The 80/10/10 Diet' on Amazon so I have sort of a basis. I know goneraw.com is a great site, but I'd love some sort of sample format or something you know? Just to make sure I'm getting all the essential vitamins and nutrients that my body needs so I don't become deficient in anything (i.e. B-12).

I am doing this in part because I want to just feel better about myself; I have depression and major anxiety so I would like to help those improve by eating more healthfully. And secondly, I desperately need to lose quite a bit of weight as I seem to be getting bigger and bigger and feel out of control.

Today I started my 'raw' regime, with a green smoothie, an organic apple and a bottle of water. But unfortunately, being out all day shopping (got a blender to make my own smoothies at my apartment as I'm just at my parents' house at the moment, and got some organic fruits and veggies as well), I came home starving, whipped up a salad made from organic lettuce and spinach, raw tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper, and a bit of hummus to spice it up on two slices of sprouted grain bread (I know, it's not raw, but it really needed some spice and texture). Anyway, I thought I was full, it sure felt like it until Ms. Flow came along and made me feel awful and then I proceeded to binge on chocolate and chips. So I really messed up with that, clearly. *sigh* I'm frustrated, so anyone have any suggestions? Comments? Support?

Sprouts [Jan. 8th, 2009|12:54 pm]

I am interested in growing and eating sprouts. I have been shopping around at sproutpeople.com for information. But I am still confused regarding what exactly yields a pound of leafy sprouts. I need pictures or at least someone telling me how many cups that might yield. How many pounds would feed me per day/week? Input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Freaky fun food [Nov. 26th, 2008|02:38 pm]

Greetings raw brothers and sisters! (And those thinking and dreaming and working towards raw!)

As I'm whipping together my lunch, I realized one of my side dishes was so uncommon that I had to share it with you guys. I almost always play the "cobble together whatever's in the fridge" game so this wasn't a planned snack. Like most of my nummy food, it just happened!

Funky Openfaced Sandwich
Homemade raw onion bread (new recipe based on verbal summary given to me by the genius behind Peace Pies which was like 1/3 each of ground flax, soaked sunflower seeds, and sprouted wheat, plus a whole red onion and some salt)
Layer of miso
Layer of red palm oil (it's on sale at Whole Foods! aw yah!)
raw olives from La Milpa Organica
home sprouted fenugreek
Super fun! Can't say it's delicious, but there are a lot of wonderful textures and flavors and I am digging it.

The rest of my menu so far today is pretty standard. I mean I make up a lot of cool recipes, but it's usually 3-4 pieces of fruit for breakfast and a boatload of veggies for lunch :)

Breakfast = persimmons, banana, valencia orange (oh navels, please come back in season soon!)

Lunch = that wonky bread concoction plus a huge rainbow salad that contains; rainbow chard, lacinato kale, dandelion greens, purple cabbage, summer squash, 1 tomato, green onions, sprouted mung beans, fenugreek sprouts, and alfalfa sprouts. Dressing was, as always, just drizzled in as it felt right. Ended up with some olive oil, red palm oil, lemon juice, horseradish mustard, garlic powder, chili powder, and salt.

So with US Thanksgiving coming up tomorrow, I just wanna remind everyone that you're doing great and Thanksgiving will be a breeze! No matter how you celebrate or what you eat, be kind to yourself and have a beautiful holiday <3

New raw foody [Nov. 17th, 2008|01:15 pm]

[Current Mood |awake]
[Current Music |MADtv]

Hey everyone!

My names Solange and I live in Kentucky. I just started my raw food diet (today!) and I wanted to find support from other raw foodists. I gained a lot of weight when I came to college and now I'm using raw food to get it all off. My mom recommended it to me, because she was able to do it for about a year or two and it worked wonders for her.

I'm trying to stay raw and only eat cooked things like oatmeal, decaf coffee, rice, maybe a small amount of meat a week, and maybe potatos. Since I have to eat in the cafeteria at school, its hard to find organic food, but I'm trying my best.

Anyway, yeah! I look forward to learning more about this diet and other things I can do.

Yummy juice [Nov. 15th, 2008|07:40 am]

Right now I'm drinking a juice of tart apple, carrot, lime, lemon, orange, cucumber, ginger, and wheatgrass (the acidity of the fruits and the bite of the ginger completely mute the taste of the wheatgrass, because I'm not a big wheatgrass fan).

All the produce I juiced made about 30 ounces of juice, so I blended the leftovers with an avocado and two bananas for later. YUMMERS.

What are your favorite raw meals?
