I have become more and more interested in trying a raw food diet. Right now I am not vegan or vegetarian, but I eat pretty well for the average college student. How can I start, keeping in mind I'm a poor college student? I suppose I could invest in a blender... hmm

Lately my diet is kind of like this:
breakfast: nutrigrain bar and coffee
lunch: a salad of mixed greens, romain, cucumber, celery, carrots. fruit salad, a vegetarian soup with a few saltine crackers
snack: a piece of fruit or a cup of yogurt
dinner: varies greatly.. sushi, more salad, if i have meat its chicken or fish. lots of veggies.
snack: anything really.

So, i know this is a really long post. I've tried to convert into more raw foods which as you can see is just meaning a lot of salad and fruit. I've also been logging the calories and the problem i'm having is that it isn't enough food and I get hungry again. Please help me get started!

Last semester I was in Germany for 5 months and I gained about 10 lbs. Now that I've been back I've been eating well and exercising 5 days a week but I havent lost an ounce. I'm hoping that a change to raw food could help me with my weight, my acne, and my mood disorder (bipolar).

(Here's the Vitamix 3600 I mentioned earlier. The tamper is this cross of wood with the cross bar placed so it can't possibly hit the blades. Note the duct tape on the "action dome". In the background you can see the Oster Fusion, a really good blender for just under a hundred bucks. Details forthcoming.)

Everyone keeps talking about this massive energy surge they get from eating raw foods, and I'm sitting here thinking, "it's not fair!"

If I get 8 hours of sleep a night, I'm usually okay until about halfway through the afternoon when I just want to nap. If I get less than that, I'm useless all day. I know some people's sleep needs are more or less than others, but isn't it unreasonable that I should require 12+ hours of sleep a night to function normally? Does anyone else have any idea what might be going on here?

This is the cake. It had layers of walnut & date & mango... It was awesome. =) (Samuel was 5.)

I went to a birthday party for a friend of my son's. They're a raw family so it was an awesome spread. I wasn't sure the juice was raw though, so I didn't have anything to drink, and I got a bit of a headache from dehydration. The family had an incredible garden in the back yard, pics on my blog. =)

Yesterday the wind knocked a free-standing door on the back porch onto an aloe plant, so I've been trying to use the leaves that broke off. Aloe is a really amazing plant. The inside is pretty much 100% transparent goo. Bizarre.

*hummus {walnuts, tahini, lemon juice, udo's, bragg's, cayenne, cumin} &
salsa {tomatoes, lime juice, pineapple, pickled hot peppers, cilantro} &

This was really good. Very rich like a chocolatey paste. I wound up eating it on pineapple and banana. Carob isn't technically raw but I got the recipe from Naked Chocolate and I figure anything from a David Wolfe book gets a raw pass. =P
